Couples and Relationship Counselling
Relationships can lose their sense of connection — through infidelity, difficulties with communication, repeated conflict, or simply growing apart from the people you once knew each other to be.
As a relationship therapist, I offer couples counselling and relationship therapy in Didcot, Oxfordshire and online, supporting couples who may be struggling to communicate, feeling disconnected, or finding themselves caught in the same patterns of conflict.
I work with couples to gently explore what is happening within the relationship and what may be getting in the way of feeling truly seen, heard and understood by one another. Sometimes it can feel as though you are having the same conversation again and again, without really getting to the heart of what is underneath it.
My approach draws on Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Attachment Theory. These approaches help us look beyond the disagreement itself and explore the emotions, needs, experiences and relationship patterns that can sit underneath it. Understanding these patterns can help create greater empathy, emotional safety and connection, rather than focusing simply on who is right or wrong.
Couples come to counselling for many different reasons, including:
-
Communication difficulties and recurring arguments
-
Feeling disconnected or growing apart
-
Infidelity and the impact of an affair
-
Rebuilding trust after betrayal
-
Difficulties with intimacy and emotional closeness
-
Separation, divorce or uncertainty about the future
-
Blended family and step-family difficulties
-
Differences in parenting approaches
-
Feeling unheard, misunderstood or emotionally distant
-
Repeated patterns of conflict that feel difficult to break
-
Changes in family life, work or circumstances that have affected the relationship
-
Understanding each other's needs and finding new ways to communicate
-
Wanting to strengthen a relationship before difficulties become more difficult to manage
Couples counselling isn't about deciding who is right or wrong, or taking sides. It is about creating a space where both people can be heard and where you can begin to understand what is happening between you.
You don't need to have all the answers before coming to couples counselling. Sometimes the first step is simply having a safe, supportive space to slow things down, understand what has happened, and begin to work out what you both need from the relationship moving forward.
